What are references?
References are the reusable elements that define how your video looks, sounds, and feels. With references, you bring in your:
-
Product
-
Characters
-
Logos
-
Voice
-
Visual style
Instead of every shot being generated from scratch, references ensure your video looks and feels like a cohesive ad or campaign.
How to use references
You can add references directly in your prompt using @mentions.
-
Type @ in the prompt box
-
Select from your saved references
-
Include them naturally in your idea or script
Example:
A skincare ad featuring @GlowSerum with a clean, minimal look in @SoftStudioStyle, with a confident female narrator
Hypernatural will apply these references across your shots when generating your video.
Why references matter
Without references:
-
Each shot is generated independently
-
Your visuals may change from shot to shot
With references:
-
Your product stays consistent across every shot
-
Characters remain the same throughout the video
-
Your visual style feels cohesive and intentional
This is especially important for:
-
Product ads
-
UGC-style videos
-
Brand campaigns
Create references
Before using references, create and save them in your account.
Saved vs. temporary references
Saved references — Create a product, character, logo, voice, or style once, and it's saved to your account. Use it across as many videos as you like by typing @ and selecting it.
Temporary references — Upload an image directly to the chat in a video without saving it as a reference. It'll only be used in that one video — you can find it within the video in the @ Ref tab, but it won't show up in your saved references or be available in any other video.
Learn more:
Once saved, they'll be available anytime you type @.
Tips
-
Use references instead of re-describing things in every prompt
-
Combine multiple references to guide both content and style
-
Keep reference names simple so they're easy to find with @
