In the beginning, God made a beautiful garden — green like the hills of Africa after the rains. Rivers flowed like silver snakes, and birds sang morning songs. God placed Adam and Eve there to care for the land. “Eat from every tree,” He said, “but not from that one in the middle.” But one hot afternoon, as the cicadas sang, a sly serpent slithered close. “Eve,” it whispered, “why not taste the fruit?
