A couple, Cameron and Janice Hooker, took her to their home in California, where she was imprisoned in a small wooden box under their bed for seven years. Cameron tortured and abused her, convincing her that escape was impossible. In 1984, Janice reported Cameron to the police, leading to Colleen’s rescue and Cameron’s conviction. Her harrowing story has since been adapted into books and films.
