Was I rushing things? Or was I ignoring signs I didn’t want to see? I stepped outside. The humid Lagos air wrapped around me instantly. Street vendors were setting up, laughing, arguing, surviving. Everyone seemed to know where they were going. Except me. My phone suddenly vibrated. My heart jumped. His name flashed on the screen. For a moment, I couldn’t breathe. Should I answer? What if this call changes everything? I closed my eyes… and picked up. “Hello?” Silence. Then a voice — not the one I expected. “Madam… are you the one looking for him?” My stomach dropped.
