Long ago when the world was young there lived a mighty lion named Kifaru whose roar shook the trees and whose pride was greater than his strength. When drought came the animals met under the acacia tree to ask Ngai the spirit of the clouds for rain. Kifaru claimed only his roar could be heard and went to shout at the sky for days but no rain fell. Weak and ashamed he returned to find a small monkey named Kima singing softly to the clouds. Kimas gentle song spoke of the dry earth and the thirst of all creatures. The
