Prompt
I heard something wet land on my zinc roof… then a woman’s voice whispered my name from above. I grew up in a small riverside community in southern Nigeria. Not the kind of place you see in movies — just muddy roads, generators at night, dogs barking at everything, and roofs made of old zinc sheets that amplify every sound. If a cat jumps, you hear it. If rain starts, nobody sleeps. That night there was no rain. It was around midnight. NEPA had taken light since evening, so the compound was pitch-black except for moonlight leaking through the window.
