In 2020, construction crews in Maui found over 2,000 iwi, Hawaiian skeletal remains, at a luxury hotel site. They were supposed to stop. They didn't. Developers in Hawai'i have been caught moving bones, reburying them in mass graves, or just building over them. It's not ancient history. Right now, there are hotels where tourists swim in pools above burial grounds. The Ritz Carlton Kapalua. Turtle Bay Resort. Honokahua. Over 1,100 Native Hawaiian burials were disturbed there before public outcry forced them to stop.
