In July 1518, in the city of Strasbourg (then part of the Holy Roman Empire), a woman named Frau Troffea began dancing uncontrollably in the streets. She danced for days without stopping, and soon dozens of people joined her. Historical records say that at the peak, around 400 people were dancing in the streets, some collapsing from exhaustion, and some reportedly died from heart attacks or strokes.
