The Honest Woodcutter A poor woodcutter dropped his axe into a river. He cried, for it was his only tool. A spirit appeared and showed him a golden axe. “This is not mine,” said the woodcutter. Then a silver axe—again he refused. At last, the spirit showed his old iron axe. The woodcutter smiled. Pleased with his honesty, the spirit gave him all three.
