After World War I, many soldiers were given farmland. But soon, around 20,000 emus — tall, powerful, flightless birds — began storming the fields, destroying crops and fences. The government decided to send in the army. Armed with machine guns, soldiers confidently marched into the outback, expecting an easy victory. But the emus didn’t cooperate. They split into smaller groups, ran at speeds up to 50 km/h, and scattered in unpredictable directions.
