The country of Nigeria came into existence through a series of actions by the British colonial government, culminating in two key dates: 1914: The Amalgamation The British colonial administrator, Lord Frederick Lugard, oversaw the unification of the Northern Nigeria Protectorate and the Southern Nigeria Protectorate. This act created the single political entity known as the Colony and Protectorate of Nigeria. This is often considered the foundation of the modern Nigerian state within its current territorial boundaries.
