Prompt
Almost no one outside of Texas knows this story. And even most Texans have forgotten it. On April 16, 1947, a ship called the SS Grandcamp was sitting in the port of Texas City. It was loaded with ammonium nitrate fertilizer. Workers noticed smoke coming from the cargo hold. They couldn't stop it. At 9:12 in the morning, the ship exploded. The blast was heard 150 miles away. A 15-foot tidal wave swept through the docks. Steel shrapnel flew in every direction. The entire dock area was wiped out. The Monsanto Chemical plant. Gone. Grain warehouses. Gone. Over 500 people
