David's popularity soared after his victory over Goliath, eclipsing Saul's own fame. MICHAL (Concerned) My Lord, you seem burdened. What troubles your heart? SAUL (Angry) Burdened? The people sing David's praises as if he were the king! 'Saul has slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands!' It gnaws at me, Michal. MICHAL (Calm, reasoned) David is loyal, and he has proven his value to Israel. Perhaps this jealousy is misplaced.
