Using additional reference images in your animations

Some animation models can use a character or product's actual reference photos, not just its text description, when you @mention it in a shot's animation prompt.

When you write an animation prompt for a shot, you can mention a character, product, or other saved asset with @Name — even if it isn't in the shot's starting image. Some animation models can use that entity's actual reference photos to guide the animation; others can only work from a text description of it, since they only accept one starting image.

Models that support extra reference images

  • Kling V3 Pro

  • MiniMax H3

  • Google Omni Flash

  • Seedance 2.5

All other models

Every other model (including Veo 3.1, Sora 2 Pro, LTX-2, Seedance 1.0/1.5/Pro 2, Flux 3, PixVerse v5, Wan 2.2, Kling V3 Turbo, and MiniMax H3 Max) only uses the shot's starting image. Any @mentioned entity that isn't already in that image gets described in words instead of shown as a photo.

Tip

If your animation references a character or product that isn't in your shot's image, pick one of the four supported models directly from the picker for the best visual accuracy.
